Sheila Shockey is a public policy and community engagement consultant who has spent 30+ years helping people understand each other—and occasionally helping them agree to disagree without flipping the table. Raised in a rural community, she has seen every shade of red, blue, and purple America has to offer. As a self-described moderate, defender of democracy, and anti-fascist (yes, you can be all three), she's equally comfortable in a policy briefing and at a potluck where the Jell-O salad is the least controversial thing on the table. When not mediating family group texts, she geeks out on neuroscience and the fascinating, frustrating ways our brains process information. Her position - you have to talk politics with family and friends on the fringe. Whether it is your MAGA aunt or your socialist cousin, having the conversation is the only way to save our democracy!
A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
