The Nevada County Democrats and Indivisible Nevada County had joined forces to host Congressman Ro Khanna for a special Veterans Day Town Hall at the Center for the Arts on Tuesday, November 11th. Ro Khanna has unfortunately been called back to Washington, D.C., at the last moment and he will be unable to attend.

This community event will feature a conversation on the issues that matter most — from supporting veterans and their families to strengthening our economy, protecting democracy, and building resilient communities in Nevada County and beyond. Following brief remarks, Congressman Khanna would have taken questions directly from attendees in an open Q&A. See the updated plans for this event below.

The event tickets are $20 to cover our costs and open to the public; doors open at 5:00 PM and the program begins at 5:30 PM. All are welcome to participate, honor the contributions of veterans, and share their voices in shaping the future.

Dear Town Hall Registrants,

I’m sorry to inform you that the Town Hall with Ro Khanna isn’t going to happen today as planned. The House of Representatives has called its members back to DC for a vote on the budget Wednesday. Rep. Khanna has cancelled his appearances in Lincoln and Grass Valley so he can be there for the vote. Please see note from his staff below.

We ARE, however, reprogramming the Town Hall to discuss what Prop 50 means to Placer County. Nick Bennett, Chair of the Placer County Democratic Party Central Committee, will lay out the features of the new Congressional maps drawn in Prop 50, how Placer County residents will be advantaged by having three Representatives instead of one, and Democrats will be collaborating to win the 2026 election. We will also have presentations from Democratic candidates or their representatives for Congress in Placer County’s three Congressional Districts, and our candidates for State Senate and State Assembly. Dear friends,

I’m so sorry to share that we have to bring down our town hall with Congressman Ro Khanna on 11/11. Speaker Johnson just announced that the House will take up a vote on the Republicans’ continuing resolution to reopen the government on Wednesday, and Ro must return to Washington, D.C. to be present for it.

As you can imagine, his first duty is to represent his constituents in Congress—especially at a moment as consequential as this. Many of you may have also seen that Ro was the first member of Congress to call on Senator Schumer to resign his leadership role yesterday, and with tensions running high, he simply cannot miss this vote.

The odds of this conflict arising were incredibly low, and we truly did not anticipate this outcome. Unfortunately, this development is out of our control.

We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment this causes. I hope you’ll understand that being in D.C. for this critical vote is part of Ro’s duty to the people he serves—and that this moment demands our elected officials be present in the halls of Congress, now more than ever.

We hope to get another town hall on the books in the near future.
