Feminist Journalist From Cuba Will Discuss Progressive Struggles Against Imperialism, Authoritarianism, and Fascism.
The Trump administration’s recent deadly strikes on boats in the Caribbean and Pacific waters, based on the claim that it is combating Venezuelan drug trafficking, could lead to a full-scale U.S. war for “regime change” in Venezuela. Such a war could also become a pretext for Trump to declare the Insurrection Act against domestic opposition in the U.S. Furthermore, the Trump administration is simultaneously promoting a tariff war against Latin America and supporting authoritarian and fascist allies in Argentina and in El Salvador to which it has deported innocent undocumented immigrants to be imprisoned in the CECOT concentration camp.
At this time, it is essential for U.S. democracy activists to oppose U.S. imperialist acts while also not being silent about the authoritarian character of the current Venezuelan regime which is hated by the majority of its own people. We need to amplify the voices of progressive labor, feminist, anti-racist, LGBTQ and other human rights struggles in Latin America that oppose both imperialism and domestic repression.
Come to this online presentation by Lisbeth Moya Gonzalez, a Cuban journalist and sociologist who writes about labor, feminist, and queer struggles in Latin America. We will discuss ideas for international people-to-people solidarity.
