Join TransRooted for a Legal Observer Training to learn how to protect protest rights and document events safely, ethically, and effectively. Legal observers play a crucial role in protecting civil liberties by witnessing and recording law enforcement interactions at demonstrations.
This hands-on training, led by Aurora of TransRooted, will prepare volunteers to serve as Legal Observers at protests, marches, and community actions.
Legal observers act as neutral witnesses — documenting police-protester interactions, ensuring accountability, and supporting the right to peaceful assembly. In this session, we’ll cover: • The role and ethics of legal observers • How to safely document incidents and interactions • Your constitutional rights when observing • How to report, debrief, and protect evidence. Learn more by watching this video.
No prior legal experience is needed. All are welcome who can commit to neutrality and safety in the field.
