Our media has largely been taken over by technocrats like Elon Musk or oligarchs like Rupert Murdoch. Our public channels NPR and PBS are being defunded. And we are seeing voices such as Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel silenced. We must reclaim newspapers, books, radio, and television. We must reclaim the means by which we communicate with each other.
Zines are a good place to start because any of us can make them. They can be left at libraries and cafes where people can find them. We can spread ideas and facts in a way that computer algorithms cannot stop. Zines are also an excellent way to open discussions with our young people.
At our workshop we will learn something about the history of zines, how to make zines, how to write the material that goes into zines, and how to distribute them.
Come join us to celebrate freedom of the press!
A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
